Types of Golf Ball

Do you know your golf balls?

Welcome to yet another great article from myself. Today we will be going over the different types of golf balls that are currently available on the market. As ive mentioned many times before, playing golf gives a person many excellent benefits, like improving physical fitness and so on. It provides a moderate to intense physical activity. As mention in my golf history article. Its origins are not fully confirmed or which year it started; however, the modern era of golf has developed in the country of Scotland.

As early as six years old and up can already play this type of sport. Which makes it even more important to learn about the different types of golf ball available. But as a beginner, it is a must that you know the different rules and tools needed in playing the golf properly. Golf is not that easy to play, but you can learn it quickly. One of the first things that you should know in playing golf is the different Types of Golf Ball.  Yes, you read it right!

There are different types of a golf ball which are great to use in different parts of the game. There are four types of golf balls, to be exact. Each of them have a different use and can only be used in specific parts of the game. Let begin with the first type of golf ball.

Two-Piece Distance Golf Ball

The two-piece distance golf ball is a widely used type of golf ball. What’s good about this golf ball is that it spins less, and if it spin’s less, it will also require less slice and hook. It also has the chance to launch higher because its firm polymer cover tends to slide up to the club, creating a slight impact. Having a harder cover is less to show damage from its abrasion. Another great thing about this golf ball is that it is rather cheap.

Two-Piece Low Compression Golf Ball

This type of golf ball is great to use because it is easier to compress. Having a low-compression ball improves the distance in the moderate swing speed. It also improves the accuracy in the category of low spin, and its softer cover improves the feel in play. However, the soft spin can lead to a more spin when you are in a short greenside shot.

Two-Piece Performance Golf Ball

These types of golf balls have large cores and thin covers. Through this, it contributes to making it easier to the core to be compressed when the ball meets the club. However, this ball has no spins advantage for a short shot. To see my favourite two piece ball currently,  check out this article

Two-Piece Performance Golf Ball

Multilayer Construction

This type of golf ball has a layer that enhances performance. It has a softcover that enhances the feel. An inner firm mantle helps improves energy transfer to the core and creating distance to its core. There is also a urethane- covered multilayer ball, which is softer than the two-piece ball, which can spin more on the chip shots and bunker shots.

Elements of The Golf Ball

Most types of  golf ball are divided into three elements, which are dimples, core, and cover. The dimples are designed to help the golf ball to fly. A thin layer of air is created, which clings to the surface and travels back to be able to increase lift and decrease the aerodynamic drag. The core is the element that drives the compression or the overall density. The higher compression balls are meant for the more experienced golfers because they come with a faster swing speed.

The next is the cover, most types of golf balls come in one of two different covers, namely Surlyn and urethane. The surlyn cover is ionomer resin that is developed by the DuPont. It has been used ever since the mid-1960s, which is also the most durable and is suitable for a lower spin. While the urethane cover, they are typically good for higher-end balls, preferred by more skilled players, which offers a softer feel and excellent control.

The Construction to The Performance

The construction of the golf balls has a significant effect to the performance in the play. There are two types of construction, such as:

The two-piece construction

These two-piece golf balls are great for the beginner and for the high and mid handicap golfers that have a slower swing speed. Its larger core maximizes the distance while it minimizes its spin and movement. Its thicker cover protects the wayward shots.

These multilayer golf balls are great for the mid-to-low handicap golfers that have faster swing speed.  The core of the ball, elevate the control and feel in the shot sculpting. It also has a thinner cover, which is excellent in enhancing spin control and provides soft and hard feels.

The Right Ball For You

To secure a sure score, it is ideal that you choose the best golf ball that fits your playing style. Chosing the right type of golf ball is key and It will help if you target the areas that you are not that particularly good at. Generally, you need to focus on your lower points. Some skilled golfers do focus on the finesse shots in the green. Having good pitches and chips can lead to a consistent 80. If you are a beginner or a high-handicapper, the probable concern for you is on how to hit the ball straight.

The low-spin distance golf balls are great to use. I go over a few of them in my golf ball for amateurs article.  This is it is made for reduced sidespin, which exaggerates the slices and hooks. It also produces a more extended ad straighter drive. As you are a beginner, you should use a low-spin ball to be able to practice and to learn to control.

Knowing your options

Now that you know the elements such as the core, cover, and dimples, this is also the right time for you to know your options to be able to have an excellent performance. Choosing the right golf ball is essential and is suitable for the skill level you are in.

Conclusion

Overall, as we can notice, the different Types of Golf Ball, have different types of work, which are only applicable for a specific series of the game. So generally, getting to know the different types of it are essential. The weight and texture of the ball also need to identify for you to estimate the right shot and use of it.

A little tip trivia for you, did you know that a golf ball when wet performs differently? Well, depending on what type of ball it is, they still have different performance when it was dry and wet. So, it would be best if you also take the time to learn the difference between the two. Many thanks, I hope you enjoy the rest of the site.
